The Engine Room Assistant (ERA)/Rating (ERR) reports to the Engineering OOW during engine room watches, and to the Second Engineer for routine and maintenance matters, including but not limited to the following responsibilities:
• Completing tasks or routines assigned by an Officer diligently, safely and efficiently,
• Assisting the Engineering Officer of the watch (OOW),
• Attending bunkering stations,
• Conducting regular rounds of engine-room,
• Conducting routine maintenance on machinery,
• Keeping areas assigned to their charge clean,
• Taking stores, operating cranes,
• Assisting with major overhaul of machinery,
• Cleaning tanks,
• Implementing the SMS as it pertains to safe machinery operations,
• Part of the emergency response team for various scenarios (oil spill, abandon ship, firefighting etc.),
• Where necessary, crewmembers the engine department are expected to work in all areas of the ship as deemed necessary by the Master
