Job Description: Cadets

Cadets are primarily onboard Coastal Shipping vessels to learn and gain experience for a future qualification and as such, are not to be relied upon for mandatory tasks or the working of the vessel without the Master or Chief Engineer’s consent provided they meet the qualifications to hold the position. Cadets report to the appropriate department head and may be assigned any type of regular duties within their capabilities.

Cadets will be given every opportunity to participate in shipboard operations on deck, the bridge or in the engine room as applicable and with due regard to
their ability and level of training. Cadets if carried are expected be punctual, respectful and perform assigned tasks in a conscientious manner. Cadets are
expected to seek guidance from appropriate personnel in the completion of their training manuals and present for verification on a regular basis all completed projects. Cadets who perform well during their time onboard will be given favourable consideration for future employment.
